Shift Leader

Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Summary:

As a Shift Leader, under minimal direct supervision, lead the press crew in the operation of the presses for their respective shift. This is a hands-on position where you will be very engaged with all aspects of production operations. Provides direction, support, and ensures the press crew follows company policies including standard operating procedures as well as all safe work practices, attendance requirements, and Rules of the House.

Shift Requirements:

This position requires a 2-2-3 rotation of 12hr shifts. 5a-5p, or 5p-5a. You will not swing from days to nights. It is required that Shift leads report to work 20 minutes prior to the start of their respective shift for effective hand-off.

Job Duties:

Based on the knowledge of order priorities juggles the crew as needed to cover vacations, sick or call-in shifts.

  • Inspects the job folders/schedule/order req to ensure that each job is set up and run correctly, using the specified substrate, packaging material, and inks. Uses color standards and X-rite to ensure the job is the correct color.
  • Leads the press crew in performing job responsibilities safely and efficiently.
  • Ensures all jobs assigned to the presses are completed on time as scheduled.
  • Check that all data required by the machine center is accurately recorded per SOPs, as well as implied requirements based on Print Pro history and personal knowledge/experience.
  • Become the “in-house” expert on Print Pro’s shop floor computer system
  • Performs preventative maintenance (when applicable) on the presses as assigned, enlisting the help of press crew and maintenance as required.
  • Follows standard operating procedures as established by the company, performing all job responsibilities safely and professionally to ensure the best quality production per shift.
  • Leads the press team in any operations that are necessary to ensure a successful shift.
  • Works with department leads and operations management to further develop printing skills.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting problems on flexographic presses.
  • Communicates with scheduling and operations leader regarding shift irregularities, especially those involving downtime, quality, and press problems.
  • Effectively and accurately communicate the shift status to the incoming Shift Leader.
  • Report any mechanical/facility concerns to the Facilities Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Performs other tasks as appropriate to support fellow employees in a team environment.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness to real-time concerns and production problems.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality and safety policies and procedures.
  • Accurately communicate production status and unresolved shift issues to Operations Manager.
  • Hold production staff employees accountable to all rules of the house, safety policies, as well as all SOPs and other company policies/practices per the employee handbook, general postings, and “rules of the house”.

Position Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing, specifically in Flexographic Printing (8+ Years)
  • Experience leading/mentoring production employees (2+ Years)
  • Integrity and leadership skills
